Reiki is a technique that focuses on manipulating the flow of life force in a person to help reduce stress, dissolve blocks, and dissipate negative emotions. Although reiki can affect different people in different ways, here are two things you can do to help you get the most out of your session.

Watch What You Eat

The purpose of reiki is to help clear out negativity and other unhealthy energy that's causing you to feel stressed or unwell. While you should be mindful of what you eat and drink on a daily basis—since these things have a significant impact on your wellbeing—it's important to avoid taking in certain foods before and after your reiki session.

In particular, you should avoid consuming food or drinks that contain caffeine, sugar, and alcohol a few days before your session. Reiki works best when you can focus on being in the moment. However, these substances can make it difficult to concentrate and can even be disruptive to the flow of energy.

For instance, caffeine can make you feel awake and energized when you drink it but unfocused, tired, and irritable when the effect invariably wears off. These negative emotions and symptoms can interfere with the healing process, leading to unfavorable results.

Instead, it's best to stick with water or unsweetened juice. However, consume these items several hours beforehand so you don't have to interrupt your session by running to the bathroom every five minutes.

Set Aside Time for Reflection

Another thing you should do both before and after your reiki session is to set aside time for reflection. Prior to your session, you should think about how you're feeling emotionally and physically. Use this time to identify issues of concern and share them with the person who will be performing the healing so they can make adjustments to the process to best serve your needs.

More than likely, the energy work will heighten your emotions and can make you feel more sensitive and rawer than normal. It's a good idea to go to a quiet place after the session to calm down and ground yourself in reality again before reentering your daily life.

You will also experience a variety of thoughts during your session. Thus, you should take a moment to journal these thoughts and reflect on what they mean, as they may provide insight to questions or concerns that caused you to seek out a reiki healing in the first place.
